Kathryn Andrews

Kathryn Andrews

Style: All Styles, specialty: Classical, Jazz

Experience: Guitar styles taught include electric, acoustic, bass and ukulele at all levels. From classical, jazz and advanced music theory to a simple method for rock and blues with no music reading necessary. My experience ranges from music awareness classes for very young children to teaching adults of all ages to play and enjoy the style of their choice. My training in classical and jazz is from the WA Conservatorium of Music (WAAPA). Most people just want to learn to play for fun and relaxation and can be surprised at how quickly you can strum a few chords and start playing music on the guitar. More advanced students can be provided with all the necessary tools to pass AMEB examinations or to prepare for auditions for university level institutions.

Qualifications: Studied at Waapa. Has been teaching for many years.

Jordan Azor

Jordan Azor

Instrument: Guitar

Style: Most contemporary styles of guitar

Experience: Jordan has been in London working as a songwriter, but he's stoked to be back in Perth teaching his true love - Guitar! A second generation musician, Jordan has been around music all of his life, and speaks the language very well indeed. He likes to familiarise his students with the fundamentals of guitar tablature before moving into chord shapes.

Jesse Beaton

Style: Jazz/Contemporary/Classical

Experience: Jesse works at Mega Music as well as the Academy. Over the last 2 years he has been recording ang gigging with several bands around London and across Europe. Jesse has been teaching privately for over 10 years.

Qualifications: Foundations in Improvisation (Jazz), Diploma of Contemporary Music at WAAPA.

Jared Bridgeman

Style: Contemporary/Metal

Experience: Jared plays in the hit band Sensory Amusia where he is constantly gigging and touring

Qualifications: Certificate 2 in Music Industry (Foundations).

Ben Griffth

Style:  Contemporary (Rock, Pop, Funk etc.)

Experience: Teaching for nearly 2 years, playing guitar for 7 years.

Qualifications: Certificate IV in Contemporary performance and currently studying Bachelor of Jazz.

Ross Hatton

Style:  Contemporary (Rock, Blues, Pop, Indie, and Alternative etc.)

Experience: Teaching for 3 years, playing guitar for 17 years.

Qualifications:Ross has been around guitars for almost all of his life. A genuine Mega Music veteran (he's been here almost since day dot!) Ross has helped out many many local bands with gear and the right advice on all things guitar and music. Ross started teaching about 3 years ago at the Academy to help pass on his wealth of knowledge and advice he's picked up over the years. A great guy, in high demand.

Mike Lyons

Style:  Contemporary (Rock, Pop, Funk, slap,)

Experience: Mike has been teaching guitar since 2008, during which time he's also been through WAAPA, Worked for Mega Music and Yamaha Australia. He's recorded solo albums, backed other artists and done countless live shows. Mike is extremely adept at theory and teaches guitar or bass.

Qualifications:Advanced diploma music (contemporary performance)

Tad Michalak

Instrument:Guitar/Harmonica

Levels:Beginners - Advanced

Experience: Tad has been playing for 26 years and taught for 15 years. He doesn't just teach how to play the instrument but also creates love for the music. He is always encouraging students to perform in public; additionally, Tad is preparing students for AMEB classical guitar exams.

Jacob Mitchell

Style:  Jazz, Funk

Experience: Jacob has experience in private guitar tutoring and has performed in venues such as Perth Art Gallery, Gypsy Tapas House, Community Fair. Jacob has also played for the Perth Bible College.

Qualifications: Certificate IV in Jazz at WAAPA and is currently studyinig Bachelor of Jazz Performance at WAAPA.

Jamie Searle

Style:  Rock, Funk, Classical, Blues, Reggae, African, Pop

Experience: Jamie has been playing guitar for 25 years and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) Honors Degree

Notable Bands/Gigs: Jamie has played support gigs for the following acts; Fat Freddy's Drop, Xaner Rudd, Cat Empire, Byron Bay Blues Festival (twice), Grace Barbe, Odette Mercy 2 Her Soul Atomics and many more.

Russell Smith

Russell Smith 

Instrument: Guitar

Style:All types of guitar styles, from Blues to Classical, Metal to Funk etc.

Experience: Russell has been a professional musician and music educator for over 15 years. Russell has had his own compositions played in film and TV in the U.S. as well as being nominated for an Aria for his composition 'Away'. He feels it's his resposibility to now pass on his wealth of knowledge to newcomers.

Notable Bands/Gigs: Signed his first major label recording and publishing deal with Warner Music Australia in 1999 and has continued his relationship with a renewed agreement with Riptide Music, a Los Angeles based movie publishing house.

Piano/Keyboard Teachers


Beverly Chan

Beverly Chan

Instrument: Piano/Keyboards - Violin

Experience: Beverly has been working as a music teacher for almost 3 years teaching privately from home as we as in a music school.

Qualifications: Taught various music programs for different age groups from early childhood (6 months - 3 and a half years of age) to 11 years of age. As well as teaching one on one, she's had experience teaching children with special needs including Austism, Down Syndrome, Asperger's syndrome and Tourrete syndrome. Beverly can teach piano from beginner right through to grade 5 level AMEB, also teaches Violin to a grade 3 level AMEB.

Notable Bands/Gigs: Received her Dimploma of music from the London College of Music, with a grade 8 theory.

Terence H'ng

Experience: Terence has been teaching since 2007.

Agnieszka Michalak

Levels:  Beginner. Agnieszka has a strong focus on helping students to be capable of thinking critically  about music which in turn can allow them to "teach" themselves.

Experience: Agnieszka has been playing piano since she was 5 and has been teaching for the last 3 1/2 years. 

Qualifications: Agnieszka has completed her 4th Grade AMEB

Qualifications: Steve is a WAAPA Graduate (Classical & Popular) and holds a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma of Music Teaching and is a Nationally Accredited Theory instructor.

Experience: Shayna has won her fair share of talent contests with her outstanding vocals. She is in constant demand for lessons because of her 12 years of vocal training bundled with her confidence.

Qualifications: Shayna is currently completing a Certificate IV in Contemporary music at WAAPA, majoring in vocals.

Stephanie Ryan

Styles: Contemporary (Rock, Pop, RnB etc)

Experience:Stephanie has 10 years experience and has been teaching for 3 years. She has also learnt to play guitar, drums & keys.Stephanie is a teacher who encourages all her students to develop the necessary skills in breathing, posture and uses specific exercises to improve a singer’s vocal range. Stephanie does more than teach the basic skills of singing, but rather helps each student to implement those skills in the music style of their choice. Ensuring that enthusiasm, positivity and enjoyment are key components of every lesson, Stephanie imparts her own love of all things music to every student.

Qualifications: She has completed a Certificate IV and Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Music at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts and is now continuing her studies into a Bachelor of Music course.

Notable Bands/Gigs: Stephanie performs with "Archer & Light" (local indie/pop band) and also sings at Weddings and functions.Stephanie also travels nationwide performing at large events and venues with 'the Catholic Guy' music team. Please have a look at her website www.stephanieryan.com.au

Experience: With tours of over 14 countries Miikey's long list of credits include Julian Lennon, Mick Quinn (Supergrass), Nathan Gaunt, FDEL, Cassie Davis, Australian Idol Damien Leith, Charly Coombes, Krissy Matthews, Dannie Stefanetti and Laurence Jones. He is also as of 2010 a Premier Drums endorsee. Miikey, is an all-round great bloke and we're stoked to have him back teaching at the Academy. Expect his calendar to book up fast so jump in quick!

Qualifications:Playing drums for well over a decade, 'Miikey' has toured the world with some of the big names in our industry.

Styles: All genres, specialising in heavy metal and rock. Christian connects well with kids!

Experience:Christian has 6 years experience and has been teaching for 3 years.

Qualifications: Christian has completed a Contemporary Music Course at WAAPA

Notable Bands/Gigs: Christian has played with Sensory Amusia, Arturo Chaos and Joe Graham Band.

Experience:Curtis has been teaching at John Paul College in Kalgoorlie for the past 4 years, and has just made the move to Perth to continue and further his career. Curtis' student roster in 2012 was a whopping 40 students, and can't wait to build up his student database here in Perth

Qualifications: Taught at John Paul College Kalgoorlie from 2009-2012

Notable Bands/Gigs: Played in a cover band in Kalgoorlie, at several private functions. Also, played acoustic performances at 'Judd's' in Kalgoorlie.

Experience: At such a young age, it's rare to come across a beacon of talent like Hana. We're thrilled to have Hana on board as our specialist Violin teacher and with a gorgeous personality to boot, we're not surprised her positions are filling up quickly.

Qualifications: Currently studying Advanced Diploma of Contemporary Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Received Diploma of Contemporary Music Cert IV of Contemporary Music from WAAPA. Graduated from Como Secondary College (with first honours) in 2010

Notable Bands/Gigs: Performs in well-established, alternative band "Bears & Dolls" who have won Battle of the Bands and been finalists in AmpFest 2012
