Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster
[0117602806]
by Mitchell Verdonk Date Added: Wednesday 06 May, 2009
What a Guitar!! Without a doubt the best tonally advanced guitar I have ever played. I was lucky enough to pick one of these bad boys up a couple of months back for around 3K. I chose the pewter option and what a sexy colour it is, sparkling in all light. Let’s start with the best part of the guitar the neck. It’s a special soft v which was designed specifically for Eric Clapton to match his Martin acoustics from the 70's. The neck is so playable almost like it was built for your hand; it’s perfect for fast runs or slow bluesy playing. The next best thing about the guitar is the TBX circuit. This stands for Tone Bass eXpander. Rolling the top tone knob below the 5 indent will cut almost all the tone, more so than a standard Stratocaster, rolling above the indent cuts the bass completely out of the pickup selected. The bottom tone knob is second secret weapon the guitar holds in its midst, the mid-boost. This adds +25 dB to the pickup selected. This adds awesome crunch tones to all notes played; it’s almost like having an overdrive pedal inbuilt into the guitar. The pickups are the 2001 Fender Vintage Noiseless Pickups which are perfect for those bell-like tones with no hum. These pickups give you the sounds of Stratocasters of old without any feedback, plus the TBX makes these pickups sound even brighter. The TBX circuit is powered by a 9v battery in the back behind the scratch plate which can be a pain to change. There’s also a vintage style bridge with a block wood mount to stop the tremolo from working, this is good for tuning unless you use the tremolo arm lots. The whole solid body is made from ash which makes the guitars resonance sound fantastic, whilst the neck is all maple which makes the strings snap perfectly.
The Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster is the best guitar I have ever picked up. If you can find one of these beauties for under 3 grand, don’t pass it by, even if you’re not a Stratocaster fan trust me when I say its well worth every cent. I know i will not need to buy another Stratocaster for a long time now I have my own Clapton strat.
