Alex Megaw

Alex Megaw - Drum Teacher

Qualifications:

Advanced Diploma of Contemporary Music (WAAPA)

Experience:

Alex has been teaching drums and percussion since 2006. He currently performs and records with Perth outfits The VolcanicsThe Little Lord Street Band and the blues/soul group Michael. Alex started learning the drums when he was nine years old and shortly after started learning guitar, French horn and multi-percussion. He has been actively performing live with several different groups of varying styles since the age of thirteen. In 2005, he completed an Advanced Diploma of Contemporary Music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). In the last ten years, Alex has performed alongside international and iconic acts such as New York DollsThey Might be GiantsJustin Townes EarlRadio BirdmanNew ChristsDied PrettyThe Saints and Adrian Edmondson’s The Bad Shepherds. In 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019, Alex travelled with The Volcanics to Europe and performed in Spain, France and Germany including a performance on the famous Rockpalast music television show as part of its crossroads program in Bonn, Germany. In more recent times, Alex has performed with folk-pop acts Patient Little Sister and The Little Lord Street Band at the Nannup, Fairbridge, Nukara, State of the Art and Big Sound music festivals.

Christopher Oldman

Christopher Oldman - Drum Teacher

Qualifications:

Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Experience:

After graduation from WAAPA, Christopher spent several years on contract in the middle east, playing extensively in Dubai, Oman, Qatar and several years on the American 5th fleet Naval base in Bahrain. He has lived and played extensively throughout Asia, most recently holding post as head percussion tutor at the New International School of Thailand in Bangkok, a United Nations school. He has also recorded and toured extensively, most recently with the Gabriel Lynch band and festival dates with award winning Thai producer Bruno Brugano. Chris is also a proud endorsee of Echoslap Percussion Asia.

Jake Isard

Jake Isard - Drum Teacher

Drums – Contemporary, Rock, Funk, Jazz

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Contemporary Music

Experience:

Jake started playing drums at the age of 10 and started performing live by the age of 14. He has gained experience performing in musicals and studio recording over recent years. Passionate about his craft, Jake wishes to share his knowledge and experience with others.

Josh Wright

Josh Wright - Drum Teacher

Currently completing his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz – WAAPA

Experience:

Having grown up playing in bands around the Perth music scene since he was 13, Josh has a passion for getting young drummers ‘stage-ready’.

Josh has gigged extensively around Australia with names such as Supathick, Blake Rose, Sly Withers and Sydnee Carter at events such as Groovin the Moo, SOTA festival and support slots for big names such as The Veronicas, Crooked Colours, Great Gable and The Rubens.

Josiah Hunter

Josiah Hunter - Drum Teacher

WAAPA Diploma of Music Industry
WAAPA Bachelor of Music (Contemporary)

Experience:

Josiah brings a genuine passion to the drum kit when performing and educating. Josiah actively gigs around Perth, performing covers and originals, ranging from R&B, Neo-Soul, Pop, Funk, Rock to other Contemporary styles. As an educator, Josiah strives to nurture student’s passion for music by focusing on technique and groove fundamentals.

Kevin Huang

Kevin Huang - Drum Teacher

Qualifications:

Diploma of Music Industry 2019 (WAAPA)

Experience:

Having played multiple festivals such as WAMFest and Fringe World, Kevin continues to grow substantially as an educator and student. As an educator, Kevin hopes to inspire creativity and enthusiasm towards the instrument. He focuses on great feel, technique and effective practice methods while making it a fun and safe environment.

Matthew Cole

Matthew Cole - Drum Teacher

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in composition with 1st class honours (WAAPA).

Experience:

Matthew has over a decade of teaching experience working from early childhood education to tertiary and adult students. As a performer, he has toured and recorded drums and percussion with major acts including Cirque du Soleil, Leo Sayer, Blur and more. Matthew gained his undergraduate degree in composition with 1st class honours at WAAPA where he is currently undergoing his PhD studies.
