Andrew Stephens

Andrew Stephens

Qualifications: Diploma in Contemporary Music (WAAPA), Graduate Diploma in Education. Playing guitar for 20 years and teaching for approximately 7.

Experience:

Andy began his guitar journey in early high school, with early influences stemming largely from the Grunge movement, and bands like Pearl Jam would eventually make way for Hendrix, SRV and Eric Johnson and early lessons from Perth slide guitarist Andrew Winton would keep him wanting to learn more. A mateship with a saxophonist gave Andy an appreciation for Jazz and his subsequent time at WAAPA was a time of inspiration, learning from the best in the business. Andy has taught privately in various schools in Perth and Albany for many years and has played in an original funk/rock band, cover bands, house bands, at churches, at weddings and functions. Put simply, Andy loves seeing his students improve and helping them find their own path to reach whatever their musical goals may be.

Ben Lazzaro

Qualifications: Currently studying a Bachelor of Contemporary Music Performance Degree at WAAPA

Experience:

Receiving his first guitar at age 4, music has been Ben's passion from a very early age. He began taking classical guitar tuition at age 9, later receiving multiple awards and distinctions through secondary schooling in music related assessments. He now studies contemporary music at WAAPA, playing regularly in corporate and pub settings. With two years teaching experience under his belt, Ben hopes to continue to share his musical knowledge in a relaxed, friendly environment and inspire students of all ages.

Harrison Read

Harrison Read

Style: Contemporary, Indie, Rock, Pop, Blues

Qualifications: Playing guitar for 14 years and teaching for two.

Experience:

Harrison has been playing and learning music for close to 14 years. Starting with piano and then moving onto guitar, he hasn’t stopped playing both instruments since. With 2 years of teaching under his belt, Harrison hopes to transfer his enthusiasm towards music onto those that he teaches. Harrison also writes, records and performs with his original band frequently, with some of his music enjoying success through Triple J Unearthed.

Jarrod Henry

Jarrod Henry

Instrument: Guitar, Vocals

Style: Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Indie, Alternative, Pop, Folk

Qualifications: 20+ years of playing, performing, recording and teaching.

Experience:

Jarrod has been playing and performing in and around the Perth music scene since the early '90s. Through a series of original and cover bands, he has developed a style of his own based around his love of the playing of Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour amongst others. With extensive studio time under his belt with various projects, he has honed his songwriting craft with a view towards future releases. In addition to being a predominantly self-taught guitarist, Jarrod spent time in school choirs throughout his school years and has always shown a passion for singing, be it classical or contemporary. Jarrod is currently demoing songs for a new project WeatherEye that will showcase his love of the '90’s British shoegaze scene, with a view to recording and performing again soon.

Jesse Beaton

Jesse Beaton

Qualifications: Advanced Diploma of Commercial Music, WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts)

Experience:

Jesse has over 20 years’ of teaching experience behind him with age groups ranging from 5 years old to 60 years old and you can rest assured you are in good hands.

Maxwell Noakes

Maxwell Noakes

Instrument: Guitar

Style: Contemporary, Classical, Folk, Rock

Qualifications: 17 years of playing, 5 years of teaching. Strong playing skills with an array of classical techniques that he is ready to impart to his students.

Experience:

Max has played guitar for 17 years and been teaching for the past 5. He has performed on studio recordings, and as part of a 30 piece classical guitar orchestra throughout New Zealand, Germany, England and at several Darwin International Guitar Festivals.

Michael Daines

Michael Daines

Qualifications: Music Industry Cert II, III, IV, Diploma of Audio Engineering

Experience:
Michael has been playing guitar for the last 17 years and teaching since the age of 15. In High School, he studied under Mace Francis, John Bailey and Dean Blanchard and came top of his 2007 graduating class in Contemporary Music and Music Industry. Studying and earning himself TAFE certifications in Music Industry as well as performing in Jazz, Fusion and Contemporary Ensembles that won several performance awards in Western Australia. After High School, he studied Audio Engineering and worked with a number of touring artists and actors both National and International. He currently works, writes and performs in 3 piece Progressive Metal band Bury The Heard as the main song writer for all their original material. For the last 4 years, the band has been working hard recording and releasing music and performing around many of Perth's Original Music Venues and supporting a wide variety of bands from around Australia.

Experience:

Nish’s obsessive devotion to the guitar began in 2006. Music has been Nish’s guiding light in life for as long as he remembers, and his ambitions are to not only keep learning as much as he can as a musician, but to share the passion for music and learning with his students and help young musicians build themselves. Nish believes that talent and skill are earned through hard work, dedication and confidence.

Nish has spent his years building an expansive base of knowledge and skills, and possesses experience beyond his years from performing, composing, recording and studying in several bands and styles, original and otherwise. Nish believes in a creative approach to the instrument, working with his students in order to help each individual develop their own musical voice and vocabulary.

Experience:

Having worked 28 consecutive years as a professional musician, Priam has extensive musical experience including performing both live and in the studio, teaching, arranging and production. A multi-instrumentalist, his experience covers many styles and genres and has seen him work alongside an impressive list of local, national and international artists.

Experience:

Ray has been playing guitar and piano since the age of 13. He is a fully qualified educator/trainer and has worked in schools for over 14 years. Ray is a highly competent guitar, bass and keyboard player after completing 7 years at WAAPA and also runs his own professional recording studio. He has over 20 years of music industry experience working, performing and recording with artists such as Nicholas Roy (The Voice), Che’Nelle (Capitol Records, EMI).

Qualifications: Russell has been a professional musician and music educator for over 15 years.

Experience:

Russell has had his own compositions played in film and TV in the U.S. as well as being nominated for an Aria for his composition 'Away'. He feels it's his responsibility to now pass on his wealth of knowledge to newcomers.

Signed his first major label recording and publishing deal with Warner Music Australia in 1999 and has continued his relationship with a renewed agreement with Riptide Music, a Los Angeles based movie publishing house.

Ross Hatton

Qualifications: Ross has been around guitars pretty much his whole life. A genuine Mega Music veteran, Ross’ dedication to his craft and to his students is something to be admired. Having played in a variety of local bands as well as studying music and guitar theory for nearly 20 years, Ross’ vast knowledge of music, guitar theory and guitar gear makes him one of Mega’s most in-demand teachers.

Experience:

Teaching for 6 years and playing guitar for almost 20 years.

 

Tad Michalak

Qualifications: Teaching member of West Australian Music Teachers Association

Experience:

Tad has been playing for 26 years and taught for 15 years. He doesn't just teach how to play the instrument; he also creates love for the music. He is always encouraging students to perform in public. Additionally, Tad is preparing students for AMEB classical guitar exams.

Tony Annese

Experience:

Born and raised in Fremantle, Western Australia, Tony has been a devotee of music, and especially the guitar, for as far back as he can remember and began classical music studies at age 8. Moving into rock and roll in his early teens, he was active in the Perth covers and original scene in the '80s before travelling interstate in the '90s in order to explore the east coast scene. Eventually, he settled down a little and returned to formal music studies. The new millennium saw him make the westward journey, back to his home grounds, where he entered into tutoring as a full-time profession. He draws from his extensive live performance, recording studio and study experiences, in individually tailoring each student’s lesson program to their required needs.
